Thing 16

There are many other forms and uses of social bookmarking besides Delicious. Here are a few for you to look at and to try.

Instapaper is...

Instapaper is a bookmarking service that allows you to save web pages so you can read them later. This is particularly useful when you find news articles and blogs on the web that you don’t have the time to read. It’s not meant for permanent storage of your links, just as a reminder for things you’d like to remember to look at.
Like Delicious, it offers you some of the latest bookmarks, as well as editor’s picks and some of the more popular links of the moment.

Reddit says...

Reddit is a source for what's new and popular on the web.”

Users of Reddit provide the content for the site, creating their own links of pictures and articles for others to view. Then other users can rate the content through voting. The m
ore positive votes a link gets, the higher up on the front page the bookmark gets. This means that the front page of Reddit is constantly changing and full of new items to view.

Stumbleupon...

Stumbleupon is a great way for you to discover and share websites that match your interests. When you join, Stumbleupon asks you to choose topics that interest you so that it can suggest links you might enjoy. Try it out and see what you can discover!

Watch this walkthrough to learn more about the service.

Digg...

Much like the others, particularly Reddit, Digg sorts its users bookmarks by how many votes or “diggs” they receive. It’s possible to search through links by topics and once you register, you can deselect the topics you don’t want to show up on your homepage. One thing that is promoted on this site is commenting on the links; conversations are encouraged.

Feel free to watch this tutorial.

Instapaper, reddit and digg all can be used on smartphones, so check it out. You can bookmark and read things on the go!
